In this professional development opportunity, participants will analyze the three pillars of Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) and how it applies to the dual language classroom. There will be specific examples of CRT in dual language classrooms shared through videos and articles (highlighting the work that is being done at CUNY Initiative for Emergent Bilinguals and Teaching for Change). Participants will analyze the sample lessons using a rubric for specific teaching and students look for’s in a culturally responsive classroom. Throughout the session participants will be engaged in the use of strategies from “Making Thinking Visible'' for reflection activities (e.g. See Think Wonder, Sentence Word Phrase). Participants will leave with practical steps for integrating Culturally Responsive Teaching in their classroom. Audience: For teachers and coaches at any grade level in Dual Language Education programs.
