MABE 2023
"Juntos Podemos: Empowering Educators & Communities Through Humanizing Pedagogies" was held in-person with remote virtual offerings on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at the Dwight Bellizzi Dual Language Academy in Hartford, CT and featured Keynote Speakers Liz Howard and Shera Simpson, authors of Tandem Teachers Roll Together. Conference attendees can view resources and materials from the conference on the Sched App through April 2023, and they will then be updated to our Member’s Only pages.
This was MABE's biggest conference so far, and we were overjoyed to have 390 registrants from 10 states, 3 countries, 20 sponsors, and more than 40 offered sessions. Thank you to volunteers, staff, and the Conference Committee, including Conference Co-Directors Marialuisa Di Stefano and Rabia Hos.
Opening Ceremony Including Keynote Address by Liz Howard and Shera Simpson, “Navigating Tensions between Separation of Languages and Translanguaging: Moving towards an Instructional Language Continuum through Tandem Teaching.” Pre-Conference School Visits MABE has been organizing school/program tours since 2013 as part of MABE’s conference goal to make connections. During the pandemic, school visits were canceled. In 2023, MABE went back to in-person and reinstating the pre-conference school visits in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. A record-breaking total of 13 schools opened their doors to more than 130 visitors.

Pre-Conference Roundtable MABE's Pre-Conference Virtual Roundtable is an advocacy event for invited guests including district leaders, state education agencies, legislators, higher education institutions, and community organizations from Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Maine. This year, the theme was "Equity and Implications of the Science of Reading on Dual Language Programs" with Keynote Speaker Dr. Patrick Proctor from Boston College, and more than 130 educators from the region and nation registered. |
