Dual Language Bilingual Education Programs Taking Root: District Leadership Retreat

Sembrando Raíces, or “planting roots,” is a district leadership program planning retreat designed by MABE to facilitate the planning and preparation of high-quality Dual Language Bilingual Education (DLBE) programs. The retreat focuses on understanding the systems and infrastructure needed to launch a successful DLBE program.

Sembrando Raíces consists of two days of intensive training and planning for district teams using the Guiding Principles for Dual Language Education, The Dual Language Program Planner: A Guide for Designing and Implementing Dual Language Programs, and MABE’s District Readiness Continuum.

The goal is for participants to leave with a clear understanding of elements of successful DLBE programs necessary for a strong foundation and the ongoing and continuous planning required by the district leadership to align the commitment to DLBE with the district’s strategic and equity plans.

Sembrando Raíces Includes:

Outcomes:

  • Written summary report of the retreat with recommendations for next steps
  • Action Plan with detailed recommendations based on MABE’s District Readiness Continuum
  • Communication Plan with detailed recommendations for outreach and communication tools to articulate the district’s motivation for implementing the DLBE program to all stakeholders

Following Sembrando Raíces, MABE can provide continued Technical Assistance and/or Professional Development.

Please contact Phyllis Hardy, Executive Director, for further information or to request a service.
