Planting the Seeds of Strong Dual Language Bilingual Education Programs: School Leadership Retreat

La Siembra, or “the planting,” is a school leadership program retreat to facilitate planning, preparation, and design of new Dual Language Bilingual Education (DLBE) programs. MABE is an approved facilitator of La Siembra, a program developed by Dual Language Education New Mexico (DLeNM).

La Siembra consists of two days of intensive training and planning for school teams using the Guiding Principles for Dual Language Education and The Dual Language Program Planner: A Guide for Designing and Implementing Dual Language Programs.

The goal is for participants to leave with a clear understanding of elements of successful DLBE programs and an action plan for implementing a DLBE program at the school level.

 Includes:

Outcomes:

  • Written summary report of the retreat with recommendations for next steps
  • Action Plan with detailed recommendations for enrollment procedures, school language policy, and staffing/hiring
  • Communication Plan with detailed recommendations for outreach and communication tools for all stakeholders
  • Curriculum Alignment Plan with detailed recommendations for the ratio of the use of English to the use of partner language for instruction

Following La Siembra, MABE can provide continued Technical Assistance and/or Professional Development.

Please contact Phyllis Hardy, Executive Director, for further information or to request a service.
