Who We Are

The Multistate Association for Bilingual Education, Northeast is a non-profit organization, governed by an Executive Board and organizational by-laws, funded through membership dues, grants, conference fees, sponsorships and consulting services. First incorporated on December 3, 1974, the growth of the organization is guided by its strategic plan. MABE is celebrating its 50 year birthday in 2024!

MABE is affiliated with the National Association of Bilingual Education (NABE).

VISION

Multilingualism and multiculturalism are assets that provide cognitive, social, emotional, educational, and employment advantages for all students.

MISSION

We identify, promote, and disseminate research-based programs and practices that support multilingualism and multiculturalism for educational success.

GUIDING PRINCIPLES

Multilingualism and multiculturalism requires…

Explicit policy at the district, state, and regional level.
Systematic and strategic implementation of instructional methods that promote bilingualism and multiculturalism.
Preparation of all educators to effectively teach the diverse populations of today and tomorrow.
Collaboration and networking among educators, families, and communities for student success.
Development of continuous research that builds and expands on the current knowledge base.

ORGANIZATIONAL CHART

Our work has grown as we have. We have evolved from an all volunteer organization to an organization governed by the Board of Directors and a growing number of paid staff and associates.

And at the center of our organizational structure are you, our members, and the work we do with educators, families, and policy makers to ensure that our students have access to high quality dual language education.
