MABE 2025
"Voices United: Advocating for Bilingualism" was hosted Saturday, March 8, 2025 at the UMass Amherst Center at Springfield, Tower Square in Massachusetts. The conference featured Keynote Speaker Dr. Kate Menken who spoke about "Educator and Family Leadership for Justice in Dual Language Bilingual Education: Thinking Differently about Effectiveness." The Opening Ceremony also presented Certificates of Excellence for DLBE Districts Awarding LOC Biliteracy Pathway Award (list in images below).
Over 450 registrants from 10 states attended to learn from more than 50 sessions. Thank you to volunteers, staff, and the Conference Committee, including Conference Director Martha Romero. Pre-Conference Advocacy Roundtable Our 2025 Pre-Conference Virtual Advocacy Roundtable “Voices Unidas: Leaders for Successful Dual Language Bilingual Education (DLBE),” followed the guiding question: “What does supportive leadership mean for DLBE?” With an advocacy lens, we explored the need for Professional Learning for building leaders, district leaders, and state leaders. The roundtable highlighted the need for supportive leadership to ensure program success, especially as programs expand and grow. To help us focus on the importance of supportive leadership, speaker Dr. Marjorie Ringler and a panel of seasoned DLBE leaders in our region set the stage for a discussion of policy implications. | Pre-Conference School Visits Multiple Dual Language Education schools and programs in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island opened their doors to visitors in February. A record-breaking total of 19 schools opened their doors to over 160 visitors.
