Dual Language Bilingual Education Essentials is a Professional Development (PD) offering that provides an overview presentation for educators, community members and other stakeholders of a district/school contemplating Dual Language Bilingual Education (DLBE) programs at the elementary-school level. We have a PD offering specific to understanding considerations for the expansion of DLBE programs to the secondary level: Expanding to Secondary DLBE.

DLBE Essentials consists of a 1.5-3 hour presentation/meeting that provides a foundational knowledge of DLBE as well as an understanding of the planning and commitment required to build a successful program. A longer half-day/full-day PD version is offered to new staff in existing programs. This longer DLBE Essentials is also offered as part of Summer Institute for anyone new to DLBE, and is listed under DLBE Foundations Series.

The goal is for all participants to understand the research and theoretical rationale, the goals, and a beginning understanding of the structure of DLBE programs.

DLBE Essentials includes:

  • 1.5-3 hour presentation/meeting, half-day/full-day PD for new staff, or Summer Institute Professional Development
  • Research review from the Guiding Principles for Dual Language Education
  • Overview of the program structure and understanding of the how the model can be adapted to meet the needs of the community and students
  • Training and facilitation by veteran DLBE educators
  • Additional future planning resources from MABE

  • Visual presentation summarizing the what, why, and how of DLBE
  • Timeline for committing to program planning

Following DLBE Essentials, MABE can provide continued Technical Assistance and/or Professional Development.
