Critical issues for leaders of dle programs Series 

VIRTUAL PD: In this series, there are four different 2-hour virtual Professional Developments (PDs) offered the week of Monday, August 12 to Friday, August 16 at 9:30-11:30amZoom links will be sent out the first week in August. 

COST: The registration cost per 2-hour session for members is $90. Registration cost per 2-hour session for non-members is $140 (includes yearly $50 membership fee – learn more about MABE member benefits here). First select your member status, and then select the sessions you would like to attend. 

AUDIENCE: Designed for DLE leaders.  Suggested experience levels are specified in session descriptions below.

SESSIONS: 

  • CLOSED - Monday, August 12 

    Haciendo puntos en otro son - Making Points with a Different Tune - NEW!  
    Facilitator: Evelyn Cosme Jones, CLEE Associate Director of Administration
    Description: How Facilitative Leadership Builds, Mends, and Extends Bridges in DLE - Based on the core beliefs and practices of the Center for Leadership and Education Equity (CLEE), get ready to learn about this approach to collaboration and relationship building that helps to advance instruction for student equity... and get ready to "hacer tu punto" through role playing fun.
    This session is intended for novice through experienced DLBE leaders.

  • Tuesday, August 13 
    Ensuring Success of a DLE Strand 
    Facilitator: Liliana SmithSpanish Immersion Coordinator, Wayland Public Schools, MA 
    DescriptionThis session will take a look at the foundational pillars necessary for a successful DLE program. We will explore instructional practices and ways to build community and culture
    This session is intended for novice DLE leaders, or anyone that needs a refresher

  • Wednesday, August 14
    Classroom Walkthrough Protocol - NEW! 
    Facilitators:  Liliana Smith, Spanish Immersion Coordinator, Wayland Public Schools, MA & Violet Jiménez Sims, CT Teacher Residency Program
  • Description: During this session, we will explore the Classroom Walkthrough Protocol and discuss strategies for a successful implementation. Participants will collaborate to identify district readiness for this protocol.
    This session is intended for novice DLE leaders, or anyone that needs a refresher.
  • Thursday, August 15
    What Is (and Isn’t) the Science of Reading - NEW! 
    Facilitator: Violet Jiménez Sims & Victoria Whaley, CT Teacher Residency Program
    Description:  Local and national mandates have pushed the "Science of Reading" center stage. But what does the term really mean? How can you know whether what you are implementing is the science of reading? This session will provide an overview of the scope and limitations of the science of reading and practical ideas of how to implement it in the context of DLE.
    This session is intended for novice and experienced DLE leaders.

  • Friday, August 16
    Quieting the Noise - NEW! 
    Facilitator: Violet Jiménez Sims, CT Teacher Residency Program
    Description: This session will provide background knowledge necessary to center research-based practice and for “quieting the noise” that can arise from different stakeholders’ perspectives. Separating historical context and linguistically sustaining practices from rhetoric will take your DLE leadership and advocacy to the highest levels of success
    This session is intended for novice and experienced DLE leaders.

REGISTRATION: Registration closes Monday, August 1. Minimum of 10 registrants per PD. Late registration (with additional fee) closes Friday, August 9.

  • Payment PolicyAll registrations and payments/Purchase Order numbers must be received by MABE before the event starts. Late registrations subject to additional charge.
  • Cancellation & Refund Policy: Event registrations are transferable up to 1 week (7 days) before the event starts. Cancellation refunds of payments will be subject to a 10% reduction of the registration fee, refundable up to 1 week (7 days) before the event starts.
