Core Strategies for Dual Language Education (DLE) Instruction

VIRTUAL PD: Three 2-hour virtual meetings 9:00am - 11:00am on Monday, August 14, Tuesday, August 15, and Wednesday, August 16. Registrants commit to attending all sessions. Zoom links will be sent out the first week in August.

FACILITATORS: Facilitated by #MABE2023 Conference Keynote Speakers...

  • Liz Howard, Associate Professor of Bilingual Education, University of Connecticut
  • Shera Simpson, Dual Language Educator & Author, CT

DESCRIPTION: In the garden of DLE instructional frameworks, there are a lot of 'plants' to choose from – SIOP, TWIOP, the Biliteracy Unit Framework, Literacy Squared, the Translanguaging Unit Plan, GLAD, the 6Cs, Counterbalancing... the list goes on and on! How do you decide which one is right for your program? Start by looking beneath the surface to the common instructional roots that all of these approaches share, and the soil of culturally and linguistically sustaining pedagogy that they are all planted in, and commit to keeping your focus there regardless of which approach or combination of approaches your program uses.

AUDIENCE: Leaders, coaches, and teachers in Dual Language Education (DLE programs).

REGISTRATION: Registration closes Tuesday, August 1. Minimum of 10 registrants.
